Just finished streaming Rodea for the Wii. I’d always been curious about this game since it was first announced, then it got cancelled / delayed for five years, and eventually released for the WiiU and 3DS.
The WiiU version also came with the original Wii version which was cancelled. It’s a very different (and much better) game!
So far it’s been a fun action platformer. The controls took a bit of getting used to, as it only uses the Wii remote on its own. After a few levels it felt more natural though. I do wish it had Nunchuck support as well to move instead of using the D-Pad, but you don’t spend that much time actually walking so it’s not too bid of an issue.
The levels can be a bit repetitive, and some of the enemies are a bit basic, but it’s fun! The graphics are nice and colourful and the story is easy to follow.
The boss fights were a highlight so far, they are giant monsters, similar to something you’d see in Shadow of the Colossus! Very fun to find out how to fly up to the weak spot and attack without taking damage, although they have been a bit easy so far…
I’ll do a video about it in the future because I think a lot of people write this game off, only knowing about the WiiU and 3DS versions and assume this one is also bad.
I was so excited for the Wii original, and felt so let down with what ended up coming out. I didn’t like the WiiU game at all, and didn’t give this version much of a chance at the time either. I’m glad I’ve finally decided to give it another go!
Here’s a post I made on this site a decade ago when it was announced to finally be coming out for the WiiU:
