E3 2018 – Nintendo Hopes and Rumours!

June 10, 2018

The last time I wrote about E3 on here was 2015! Back then it seems I was quite un-impressed with Nintendo’s showing. That was the year they announced the fan favourite (not) Metroid Prime Federation Force and Starfox Zero, a game I enjoyed but was universally panned by the critics on release.

This year, things already are shaping up to be a lot better! The Switch has had a great first year and there’s already a lot announced by Nintendo be at their Direct event on Tuesday.

Games we know for certain

Smash Bros Switch

So far, we know for certain that there will be plenty of new Smash Bros Switch gameplay and it will continue into the Treehouse event straight after the presentation. I also expect to see some more of the recently announced Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee / Pikachu, as well as some mention of the new RPG coming next year.

Metroid Prime 4

Other games I hope to see more of are Metroid Prime 4, announced at last year’s E3 with just a title shown, it was enough to send the fans wild. If they show gameplay this year i’m sure the reactions will be just as entertaining as the gameplay it’s self! Check out this video of the reveal last year, from Nintendo Store New York.

Yoshi

Yoshi was shown off last year, this game will surely get some more time in the spotlight. It looks like a good sequel to Wooly World, this time with more of a Super Paper Mario style camera swapping mechanic.

Fire Emblem Switch.

Another title that was announced last year, hopefully we’ll see some gameplay and maybe a release date, a lot of people are eagerly anticipating the release so it will be great to see some more details!

So, that’s everything we know for certain. Now for some of the rumours that have been going around..

Rumours

Starfox Grand Prix.

This one was rumoured a few months ago after being posted on a Starfox Reddit. If what they posted is true then i’m very excited as it sounds like a return to the Diddy Kong Racing style of gameplay, including a hub world and boss fights!

Fortnite on Switch

This will surely make a lot of people happy, i’m not too bothered but it is really popular and would be a great title for Nintendo have have on their system! It might even be a system seller for some gamers!

Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

Still my favourite Zelda game, I would love to see a HD remaster of Skyward Sword, the graphic style would look amazing in higher resolution and the Joy-con have all the motion sensing capabilities of the wii remote so it should still play just as good. I do think they should also have a non-motion option for those that either refused to play it because it wasn’t traditional Zelda / dislike of motion controls in general, or can’t use motion for other reasons. It’s a shame that some people missed out on the amazing adventure so making it more accessible would be a great move.

What i’d like to see

Animal Crossing

I’m sure this is one that a lot of people really want to see… Not the boring Amiibo Festival we were “treated to” on the WiiU. We all want a proper Animal Crossing game, I would even be happy with an upscaled version of New Leaf with extra features and more to do. I’m sure they Animal Crossing team has been busy working on something so it’s only a matter of time until we find out, let’s hope that E3 is that time!

F-Zero

I say that every year, but this year is once again looking quite unlikely as the rumour of Star Fox Grand Prix kind of makes me think they would want to release F-Zero around the same time as another first party futuristic racer. Maybe next year….

A new IP.

After the amazing success of Splatoon and Arms, I would love to see Nintendo take another chance and let some of their developers come up with something new again, they seem to have a good track record recently after being so shy about creating new characters and games for a long while. I don’t really know what I’d want it to be, I just want to be surprised!
